Second daughter of Jeremiah Chamberlain (1740-1829) and Margaret Carmichael (1765-1821), of Grainger Co., TN. In 1809, she married James Sterling. Some time before 1840, they moved to Johnson Co., MO. The Sterlings had six children: John; Margaret E.; Jeremiah Chamberlain; James; Taylor; and Catherine Jane. After James' death in 1852, Janet moved with her children to TX.. . In 1870 Jennet is living with Taylor Stirling in Williamson County, Texas, in Bagdad. There is no Bagdad on any map, next they lived in Leander, and then I have a picture of Sterling home, Hopewell, 1900. We stopped at Leander and ask if anyone ever heard of Bagdad. The fellow says "Oh, yes, the cemetery is still called Bagdad, and it was once the town, but the railroad passed them by, so they moved the town over 1 mile and called it Leander. So we go back to the cemetery, because Jennet has to be there. Sure enough, there she is, the stone was broken and very hard to read, is why I didn't see it the first time. Her name is spelled Jennett Stiriling, but the dates were all gone. Next to her is a grave marked only with a piece of broken stone. I could not make out even one letter. Could that be James's grave? Taylor is not there, so he must have lived long enough to get to Hopewell.
