He was the son of Ralph Deardorff and Sadie Scott. He married Margaret Flora Griggs 15 March 1945 in Bolivar Co MS. They had three children, Harry Clinton Deardorff, India Jane Deardorff, and Robert Michael Deardorff.

He was a graduate of Drew High School at Drew, Mississippi. He worked at the Delta Theatre in Ruleville, Mississippi while in high school.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps 12 Sept 1941. He attended flight school at Turner Field, Albany GA, Class 43-D, and received his wings 29 April 1943.

He flew B-17s and B-24s in the Pacific Theatre, and flew General Robert L Eichelberger (Commander, 8th ARMY, 77th INF, in charge of US Ground Troops in New Guinea, Australia and the Pacific Theatre) on the B-17F #41-24353 'Miss Em', named after the Generals' wife, Emaline. The plane was previously named 'Cap'n & The Kids' (assigned earlier with the 433rd Troop Carrier Group and also flown by Pilot Major Charles Downer).

He was a career pilot and retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Air Line Pilots Association and a member of American Legion Post No.218 in Middletown.
He is included in the book Who's Who in Aviation and Aerospace, U.S. Edition 1983.
