Marie Lillian (Stipe) Gold was born June 14th 1920 in Krebs, Oklahoma. She was the first child of Jacob Irvin and Eva Lucinda (Cable) Stipe.

She resided in Pittsburg County all her life. She graduated from Savanna High School, Eastern Oklahoma College with an associate degree in Home Economics and Southeastern State University with a B.A in education. Teaching and young people were her passion. She taught nine years in Indianola Elementary school and twenty years in McAlester.

Marie married Freddie Gold on May 22, 1940 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilburton. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church of Savanna where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and worked in the youth group. Marie was active in many Organizations; Savanna chapter 349, Savanna Rebekah Lodge 357; she was a past Noble Grand Rebecca, Lodge Deputy, District Deputy President, Assembly Chaplain, White Shine, and Past Noble Profits. She was also a member of the Oklahoma Education Association and a Past President of the Esther Garden Club. Marie worked with the boy and girl scouts and 4-H clubs. She was active in the Democratic party and was a member of Woman of Action 19 and a Member of Savanna Sr. Citizens where she served on the food committee. Marie was selected as Teacher of the Year in 1977 and 1981 while teaching in McAlester schools and was woman of the year in I.C.A.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Irvin and Eva Lucinda (Cable) Stipe, her husband, Freddie G. Gold, brothers; Claudie, Jack and Francis Stipe, and an infant brother and sister, and a son-in-law Jerry VanHoozer.

The service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Savanna, OK conducted by Kyle Cummings and Don Russell. Music will be provided by Richard Faling. The interment will follow at Savanna Cemetery, Savanna, OK. Honorary Pall Bearers are all of the great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Savanna Building fund, the Sunday school class, Oklahoma Eastern Star Rebekah's, teachers organizations, student organizations or a charity of personal choice.
