SWANNANOA - Essie "Irene" Arrington Riddle, 91, formerly of 34 Charlie Riddle Lane, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Asheville Health Care Center.
A native of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother and a member of the Jehova Witness faith.
Mrs Riddle was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel Mae Collins Arrington and wife of Charlie Riddle who died October 9, 1999.
Surviving are her daughter, Marie Blankenship of Swannanoa; granddaughter Patricia Gaddy of Swannanoa; great-granddaughters, Brandy Hill and Kassie Thompson, both of Swannanoa; great-grandsons, Nicholas Hill and Jamie Thompson, both of Swannanoa and Eric Moore of Fairview; five great-great-grandchildren; sister Lucille Clark of Enka; half-sisters, Mildred Rogers of Rockford, Ill., Wilma Roach of Enka and Virginia O'Dette of Swannanoa; brothers, Claude Arrington of Rockford, Ill., and Fred Arrington of Candler.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Coye Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
