FAITH SHAMBAUGH SERVICES HELD
Faith R. Briggs was born August 17, 1894 in Colorado, moved to Nebraska, and came to Colorado from Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 10 in a covered wagon with her parents, twin sister and three brothers. Here they purchased a homestead from Lex Elder 18 miles southeast of Holyoke.
She graduated from the eighth grade at Pleasant Valley School.
Faith was married to Vernon A. Shambaugh April 19, 1914 and lived on Vernon's homestead 22 miles southeast of Holyoke. In the spring of 1919, they sold their homestead and went by train to Pennsylvania.
In the spring of 1926 they returned to Phillips County with their five children.
Vernon died in 1943 and Faith and her youngest daughter Irene moved to Holyoke. Faith worked in the Holyoke Hospital under Dr. Hill for a few years and then managed a cafe with Ruby Ashton for a year.
She spent five years in Tucson, Arizona with her daughter Anna Mae Trostle and a year with her daughter's family, the Jim Sloans, after her daughter Irene passed away. She retired at the age of 78 and did volunteer work after that as long as she was able.
She is survived by one brother Lawrence Briggs of Holyoke; two sons Guy R. Shambaugh of Boise, Idaho and Lloyd C. Shambaugh of Denver; two daughters Laura Ellis of Colorado Springs and Anna Mae Trostle of Tucson, Arizona; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
