On April 26, 1916, during the evening hours, Motorcycle Officer Fred Wright and a tandem rider in his sidecar were at the intersection of King Street and Maunakea Street when they were struck by a speeding postal mail collection vehicle.
Officer Wright suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Queen's hospital for treatment. Officer Wright died four days later as a result of his injuries.
