Son of Land Developer and rancher James I. Irvine. Irvine started the Irvine Ranch in the early 1900's. At one time Irvine owned 1/3 of Orange County, California, 110,000 acres. On his death in 1947, Myford took over as President of the Irvine Ranch Company. The ranch grew oranges, beans and other produce. In 1959, Myford was found in his basement with 3 self inflicted gunshot wounds. He shot himself twice in the stomach with a .16 gauge shotgun, than in the temple with a .22-caliber revolver to finish the job. Myford was said to be right handed but shot himself with the left hand. To this day, several doubt it was suicide. He is also said to haunt the old ranch that still stands today in the city of Irvine. The ranch is now a museum.
