Goldie M. Bennett, 84, Iola, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Windsor Place there.
She was born July 4, 1916, near Elk City, the daughter of James A. and Mollie J. Woodruffe Dunbar. Her family moved to a farm northeast of Carlyle when she was 12, and she attended Prairie Union Country School.
She then lived in the Carpenter district near Geneva. She owned and operated Bennet Coin Laundry in Iola, beginning in 1970, and moved to Iola in 1978. She sold the laudromat in 1990.
She attended Carlyle Presbyterian Church and was a 4-H leader for 27 years.
She married Claude C. Bennett on July 14, 1937, and he died Sept. 2, 1992. She also was preceded by seven brothers and two grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Web of Humboldt, Chester of Buffalo and Lester of Colony; two daughters, Esther Marsh of Bronson and Mary Evans of Humboldt; a brother, Jesse A. Dunbar of Stockton, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola, with the Rev. Earl Bell officating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
