Joe Albers was born April 21, 1890 at Lillyville, Illinois to Henry and Mary Albers. He was the oldest of nine children and early in life he moved with his parents to Muenster, Texas.
Albers joined Muenster Knights of Columbus in May of 1913 and later transferred to Great Bend Council. In 1945, he moved to Holyoke and in 1952 was helpful in starting the Holyoke Council Knights of Columbus, of which he was a charter and honorary member. In 1955, he joined Sterling Fourth Degree assembly to hold all the offices in the order.
Joe was united in marriage to Wethelmina* Bauer in 1950. She preceded him in death in 1964.
He served his country in World War I from 1917 to 1918 in the 45th infantry. He was an honorary life member of Holyoke American Legion Post.
Albers is survived by two sisters Helen Nichols and Cecelin Masser of Gainsville, Texas; one brother Clarence of Louisville, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews from that area.
He departed this life December 7, 1984. Rosary services were held Tuesday, December 11 and Mass of the Christian Burial was Wednesday, December 12 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Holyoke.
Military graveside services were conducted and interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park.
