Viola Bessie Jones was the daughter of Harold Dewey Jones and wife Sarah Ethel Morris Jones. She was born in Port Dickinson in Broome County NY, the first of their 11 children. Her family moved to Elmira NY when she was a little girl.

She was a graduate of Southside High School (Elmira, NY) Class of 1939.
Vi married William Etman Galpin on August 20, 1939. They lived in Elmira the rest of their lives, with Bill dying March 6, 2004 and Vi dying October 1, 2007. They were long term members of Saint Peter & Paul's Catholic Church in Elmira.

Bill & Vi had 10 children, who are all still living.

They are buried together at Saint Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira.
