He was a veteran of the Civil War and active in grand army circles. He served two terms as director of the Fayette County infirmary. Mr. Andrews was one of the oldest members of the local Masonic lodge. He was a member of the Bloomingburg M.E. Church.

On July 30th 1864 he became a private in Company K, One Hundred and Seventy-sixth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under Col. Edward C. Mason, and served until the close of the war. His regiment was assigned to the Eastern Army of the Cumberland and saw some active service, among the engagements being the battle of Nashville (Tennessee) and other minor skirmishes. Rank in: Corporal, Rank out: Sergeant Film #M552 Roll 2.

His parents were William Gibson Andrews and Rebecca Townsend Andrews.
