Claude married Cora Irene Casey (born 06 Aug 1877 in Paint, Fayette County, Ohio) in 1896 and they had two children both born in Fayette County, Ohio. He worked as a mail carrier and meat cutter.

Cora Irene's parents were Henry Casey and Catherine W. Holland. Henry Casey was a Civil War veteran and the Medal of Honor was awarded to him on the 17th day of September 1897 for "Most distinguished gallantry at Vicksburg Miss. April 22, 1863, in volunteering and serving as one of the crew of a transport that was under very heavy fire in passing the forts at that place." Gen. Grant gave him a 30 day furlough for his valor.
