During the French and Indian Wars, the Indians drove the Huyetts over into Maryland. Nicholas enlisted in Capt. Adam Otts's company, Milita of Washington Co. Maryland as a private. This company later became a part of General Washington's Army and was encamped at Valley Forge during that terrible winter. After the war he moved to Huntington County Pennsylvania and settled on a large farm in the Shaver's Creek Valley. He married Elizabeth Gierhart and they had 12 children all of whom grew up and married and all of whom have living decendants.
In his youth Nicholas spelled his name Huyett, and in the Revolutionary war records it is spelled Huet, but later in life after he moved to Huntington County, Pennsylvania he changed it to Hewit, and then Hewitt, which form all of his descendants use.
Children are:
Henry Hewitt, David Hewitt, Jacob Hewitt, Christian Hewitt, Peter Hewitt, Daniel Hewitt, Catherine Hewitt, Mary Hewitt, Elizabeth Hewitt, John Hewitt, Sophia Hewitt and Margaret Hewitt.
