Bonnie M. Hjort, 88, of Derby, died Dec. 24, 2011, at Sterling House Assisted Living.

She was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Lincoln County, Kan., to Orlo W. and Ana Dorothea Jorgensen Dirks.

She was a graduate of Moundridge High School in 1941 and received her Registered Nursing degree in 1945 from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and manager of the former Garden Plaza Apartments and a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Hutchinson.

On Aug. 17, 1946, she married Roger William Hjort in Ottawa, Kan. He died Nov. 25, 1982.

Survivors include: daughter, Nancy Mendenhall and husband Michael of Derby, Kan.; two granddaughters, Amy Jo Anderson and husband Jason of Derby, Kan. and Katheryn Tanner and husband Brian of San Diego, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Cassandra Mae and Oscar Anderson, and Michael and Gus Tanner; brother, Benjamin Dirks of Bozeman, Mont.; sisters, Betty Dirks of Jacksonville, Fla., Julia Helderman of Wichita, and Barbara Gilmore of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Tim.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Ray Kemple officiating. Burial in Fairlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed.

Memorials may be sent to First Southern Baptist Church, in care of the mortuary.
