Catherine was born in 1837 in Eccleshall Bierlow, Yorshire, West Riding, England. She was a widow with no children when she met and married John Adams (1816-1899) as his second wife. Catherine and John were married in 1881, registered in the last quarter of the year.

Although there were no children with this marriage, Catherine raised John's children who were abandoned by their mother, the youngest was still just an infant, loving them as though they were her own. Catherine suffered fatally on 27 Mar 1890 from Phthisis [wasting] Convulsions* and exhaustion. They resided at 29 Woodhead Road, Ecclesall Bierlow.

Catherine is buried in the same grave with her husband John. She was only 53 when she died.

*In searching for what Phshisis Convulsions is, several sources mention Tuberculosis is one form of it, but not the other way around. The Edinburgh Medical Journal p. 217 (1867) it was most deadly and comparative with Bronchitis, Pneumonia and Scarlatina, having the highest register of 51,284 deaths in 1854 in England. The word means "wasting" and applies to many diseases.
