Isaac Tillman Gregory was born August 7, 1795 to Robert Gregory and Mary Ann Young in Union, South Carolina.
About 1816 he married Martha Humphries there and they started their family while in South Carolina. The couple had 8 children: Sarah Jane Gregory (1820 – 1856), Agnes H Gregory (1823 – 1885), Robert C Gregory (1827 – 1892), Cornelia M (Amanda) Gregory (1829 – 1864), Mary Elizabeth Gregory (1833 – 1909), John Tillman Gregory (1834 – ), Charles Henry Gregory (1838 – 1865), Benjamin F Gregory (1840 – 1900).
The last few of their children were born in Tennessee.
The family left South Carolina shortly after 1830 and migrated to Tennessee.. They briefly lived in Lawrence County, Tennessee, and their oldest daughter, Sarah Jane Gregory, married there to Silas M. Bryan in 1834. Eventually the Gregory family moved on to Fayette County, Tennessee to settle permanently. Both Isaac and Martha died in Fayette County.
