Mrs. May Evans Butler of Chase City, Va., 103, died peacefully at her home on December 25, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Rosser Butler.

She is survived by her son, Albert Rosser Butler, Jr. of Atri, CT; grandchildren, Albert Rosser Butler, III of Chapel Hill, NC; Lynn Bernhardt of Albany, CA; Juel Giglio of Aberdeen, WA; Beth Reagle of Danen, CT; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Giglio of WA, Amanda and Erik Bernhardt of Albany, CA, Max and Jackson Reagle of Danen, Ct; two great great grandchildren, and sixteen nieces and nephews.

A native of McRae, GA., Mrs. Butler made her home in Chase City for more than fifty years. She was a long time member of Centenary United Methodist Church, The Women's Club of Chase City, and the DAR. She was honored for her work on the boards of the McCallum-Moore Gardens Museum and The Prestwould Foundation. A member of the Roanoke River Arts Association, Mrs. Butler worked to supplement education in the visual arts throughout Mecklenburg County.

The family will receive friends, Monday, December 26, from 6-8 pm at Mrs. Butler's home. A memorial service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 614 Walker Street, Chase City, Va. 23924.
