Funeral Services for John F. Stalp, 65, rural West Point; were Monday May 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev James Ryberg officiated. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, West Point. John died Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner. Pallbearers were Gary Batenhorst, Patrick Brockhuas, Liegh Heimann, Daniel Meiergerd, Ronald Schlect, and Matthew Steffen. Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Buse, Bob Kampschneider , Donald Luebbert, Leonard Schuetze, Ben Stalp, and Kenneth Uhing. John was born June 22, 1936, in West Point to John C.and Catherine (Ortmeier) Stalp. He graduated from Guardian Angels School in West Point in 1954. He farmed the family farm north of West Point until 1995 when his health forced him to retire. he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.Survivors include sisters Margaret (Francis) Heimann, Elizabeth (George) Brockhaus of Humphrey; a brother Paul (Mary Clare) of Beemer; brother-in-law Ray Meiergerd of West Point; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Genevieve Meiergerd and niece Stacey Lynn Stalp. Stalp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
