LaVina was born on July 13, 1916, at Blaisdell, N.D., to Joseph and Helen (Mader) Goettle. She attended country school near the family farm. LaVina started working on the farm and later worked as a nanny in Minot and for a turkey processing company
On Jan. 29, 1945, she married Trygve Stave in Minot, N.D. They started farming in Stave Township and continued farming and ranching until 1981. They moved into Stanley and continued living there until Trygve's death in April of 2002. LaVina had been a resident at the Parshall and Mohall Good Samaritan Homes.
LaVina enjoyed taking rides through the countryside, visiting on the phone with friends and relatives and treating the family with her great cooking.
She is survived by: her sons, Terry of Blaisdell, N.D., and Thomas of Athens, Ga.; grandsons, Travis Stave and Nicholas Stave; granddaughter, Annika Stave; brother, Robert Goettle of Stanley; sister, Rosie (Alan) Bieri, Blaisdell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
