Mr. Marquardt was born Dec. 5,1918, in Holstein, Iowa, the son of Otto and Lillian (Guy) Marquardt. As a child, he moved with his family to Slayton, where he attended grade school. The family later moved to Peoria, I11. After he completed high school in Peoria, he worked at the Caterpillar Tractor Co. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific. He was discharged in 1945.
He returned to work at the Caterpillar Co., retiring in 1980 after 42 years with the firm.
He was married to the former Evelyn Burger. They moved to Bass Lake near Battle Lake in 1970.
He was a charter member of the Peoria Sportsman Club, and he played on the Caterpillar Company's baseball team, which competed on a national level.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Denise Godel of Owatonna and Linda Young; a son, Robert of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Betty Koslowsky of Van Nuys, Calif., and Bertha Paschal of Monmouth, I11.; and four brothers, Glen Sr. and Henry, both of Kenning, Ralph of Boise, Idaho, and Bob of North Hollywood, Calif.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at Nilson Funeral Home, Battle Lake, and will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
