COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Rev. Walter Wesley Balir, 58, of Route 2, Cookeville, will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Cecil Vantrease and Bro. Henry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Rev. Blair was dead on arrival at Cookeville General Hospital October 7, 1983.
A native of Smith County, he was the son of the late Shafter and Effie Dickens Blair.
He was the former pastor of Bear Creek Baptist Church and was at the time of his death a member of the First Baptist Church of Baxter.
His family includes his wife, Ida Mai Grogan Blair of Cookeville; two sons, James Blair of Mt. Juliet and Jerry Blair of Cookeville; for sisters, Mrs. Virginia huff of Chestnut Mound, Margaret Porch of Old Hickory, Melva Reece of Mt. Juliet, and Bessie Napier of Lebanon; five brothers, Hugh Lee Blair of Watertown, Ernest Blair of Chestnut Mound, James Blair of Carthage, Rev. Frank Blair of Cookeville, and Francis Blair of Cookeville; and three grandchildren.
