Samuel Shortridge, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Wea Township, died yesterday morning at Quarter past 7 o'clock, of typhoid pneumonia, at the age of 49 years. His illness, though severe was not thought to be necessarily fatal, until within a few days; but the poor physical frame was worn out, and had no rallying power. Mr Shortridge represented his county very honorably for one term in the lower branch of the State Legislature, and was a man who stood well among his neighbors. His business reverses had clouded the closing years of his life with anxieties to which its earlier maturity was a stranger, and seemed to undermine his vitality. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Friday) morning at the Wildcat Christian Church, at 11 o'clock. Services by Rev L M Schofield. ( The Daily Journal, Lafayette, Indiana, Thursday, April 8, 1880)
