Fay McCabe, 87, died Jan. 18, 2004, at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville. Wanda Fay was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Richey, Mont., to Jay and Orpha (Coburn) Scarbro. Her early years were spent in Montana and Oklahoma. Later she moved to Tonasket.

Fay graduated from Tonasket High School in 1935. Jan. 11, 1936, she married Rexford Dewey McCabe. From that marriage came four children.

In 1959, the McCabe family moved to Orcas Island, where they remained until 1980. Following the death of her husband Rex, Fay lived in Montana, Spokane and finally settled in Coupeville. She was a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church. Fay was committed to her family and her faith.

Fay McCabe is survived by three children: Gail (Jack) Shell of Toston, Mont.; Terry (Barbara) McCabe of Twisp; and Peggy Rose McCabe of Coupeville and one son-in-law, Jim Rogers of Spokane. Ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive. Her parents, her husband, one daughter, Jenny, one sister, Norma Hamilton, and one brother, Jack Scarbro, preceded her in death.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Chapel of Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
