World War II U.S. Army Veteran. Born in Nebraska, he was raised in Colorado by his uncle and aunt, George and Delora Horn, after his father, Giles Horn died. He was inducted into the military service on November 2, 1940 and served as a Private First Class in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, U.S. Army. He was killed in action during the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
