German Royalty. As was customary for those entitled to the title of Royal Highness, he was baptized in the Catholic faith with the names of Maximilian Maria Joseph Anton Johann Baptist Johann Evangelista Ignaz Augustin Xavier Aloys Johann Nepomuk Januar Hermenegild Agnellis Paschalis in honor of the notables of the Wettin house of Saxony. However, he was a cadet descendant as sixth-born of Elector Friedrich Christian and retained the title of Crown Prince according to the Salic law for only a short time (1827-1836), abdicating then in favor of his son Friedrich August.
