Dorothy Dittmer, 96, of Bowen, Ill., died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy. Ill.

Born Aug. 23, 1915, in West Point, she was the daughter of John and Gertrude Laffey Clampitt. On Sept. 5, 1940, she married Rollie Dittmer in Carthage, Ill. He died in 1996.

Mrs. Dittmer owned and operated Dittmer Tax Service for more than 50 years. She was an enrolled agent and recognized by the IRS as a licensed tax practitioner. She worked at Bowen Bank.

She graduated from Bowen High School in 1933, and attended Gem City Business College.

She was a member and past officer of Independent Accountants Association of Illinois (IAAI).

She was active in politics and community service and served on the boards of Chili Library in Bowen and Memorial Hospital in Carthage. She volunteered as a Grey Lady at the hospital in earlier years. She was a member of National Organization for Women (NOW) and Business and Professional Women (BPW).

Survivors include one son, John Dittmer of Bowen; one daughter, Mary Ann Freeman of Coatsburg, Ill.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, her parents and two brothers.
