Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Hannah T. (Donoghue) Laffey.
Mrs. Newton was an Administrative Assistant at the University of Rhode Island for 54 years, retiring in 1999.
She is survived by a brother, Joseph Laffey of West Kingston; two sisters, Mary McBride of Falls Church, VA and Sister Margaret Mary Laffey, CP of South Kingstown; 26 nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ambrose Laffey.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Wakefield. Burial followed et in St. Francis Cemetery Peace Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 260 Exchange Street, Suite 102 B, Providence, RI
