Troy J. Thornton was born December 11, 1915 in the Okay, OK, area to William J. and Nora (Scott) Thornton. He married Martha Ann Gillispie on April 11, 1938. They were blessed with four children. During World War II he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Campaign as a Seaman First Class. Troy was a longtime farmer and worked at Redi-Mix of Muskogee. He met his creator on December 29, 2011 at his home. Papa Troy was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann; and son, Troy Lee Thornton, of Fort Gibson. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Smith of Muskogee; son, Don Thornton (Rama Baine) of Fort Gibson; daughter, Tootsie Henderson (Phillip Henderson) of Fort Gibson; daughter-in-law, Ann Thornton of Fort Gibson; brother, Albert Thornton of Muskogee; sister, Bessie Shapland of Muskogee; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral services for Troy will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Millsap Funeral Service Chapel in Fort Gibson with Jon Henderson officiating. Pallbearers will be Travis Thornton, Troy Don Thornton, Bobby Smith, Trent Cox, Rodney Thornton, and Stephen Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be John Edwards, Phillip Gene Henderson, Rick Fields, Richard Reese, and Rusty Clark. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson.
