Randolph H. Guthrie died of a heart attack Monday at his home in Hilton Head, SC. He was 83 years old and was a longtime resident of New York City. Mr. Guthrie was a senior partner at Mudge, Rose, Guthrie, Alexander & Ferdon, a law firm in New York. He was chairman of th boards of the Studebaker-Packard Corporation from 1963-1971 and UMC Industries Inc., a money-changing equipment manufacturer from 1969-1977. He was chairman of the executive committee of both companies until 1980.
Mr. Guthrie was born in Richmond and graduated from the Citadel and the Harvard Law School, magna cum laude. He joined Mudge, Rose in 1931. He was a former member of the board of The Boys Club of New York.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel Welton; two sons, Randolph and George, and a daughter, Jo, all of New York City; two sisters, Thomasia Phillips of Hilton Head, and Cary Bonner of Camden, SC; and seven grandchildren.
