From The State Times Advocate, Baton Rouge, LA; 1 Dec 1926, p.4: "Former Orleans Man Takes His Life in Tampa / Tampa, Fla., Dec. 1. - Thomas L. Macon, 58, killed himself in the rear of his home here today by shooting himself through the heart with a rifle. Macon came to Tampa from New Orleans several months ago. / His wife attributed the act to ill health and fear that he would lose his eyesight. / Macon slipped away from a nurse under whose care he had been for several weeks and taking a rifle to the garage in the rear of his home placed the butt of the gun on the floor with the barrel against his heart. His wife, investigating after hearing the shot, found him dying. / The body was carried to Keswick, Va., for burial. Macon is survived by the widow and a son, Benjamin T. Macon of Chicago."

From The Tampa Tribune; Tampa, FL, 2 Dec 1926, p.19: "THOMAS L. MACON / Thomas L. Macon, 58, of 2611 Watrous avenue, died at the residence yesterday morning. He is survived by his wife, and one son, Benjamin T. Gates, of Chicago. Funeral arrangements are in charge of B. Marion Reed, and will be announced later."
