Frank served as a Fireman, First Class, U.S.S. Pensacola (CA-24), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Norwich, Windsor County, Vermont prior to the war.

Frank was "Killed In Action" when the Pensacola was struck by a Japanese torpedo during the Battle of Tassafaronga during the war. Seven officers and 118 men lost their lives.

He was originally interred in Guadalcanal and was later repatriated here on March 11, 1948.

His brother, SK1 Leo Francis LaPorte, was also "Killed In Action" during the war.

The Pensacola survived the attack and the war. Pensacola received 13 battle stars for World War II service.
