Enlisted, July 24, 1917, in Troop C, Squadron A Cavalry, in New York City. Squadron A Cavalry reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, he was assigned to Company C. The 105th MG Battalion was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, as part of the 27th Division.

After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 17, 1918, aboard the USS Calomare, from Newport News, VA. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Wounded in action, Sept. 4, 1918, in Belgium. Returned to The States, March 6, 1918, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ.

He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, on March 25, 1919. Discharged April 17, 1919.
