Obituary for Rodney H. Blake
A funeral service for Rodney H. Blake, 76 of Newark, will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. The family will host friends at Shiloh following the burial services.

Rodney went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2011, at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 11, 1935, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Harry and Frances (Johnson) Blake. He was the only son of 5 children.

He graduated from Newark Senior High School in June 2003. He married Mattie (Davis) Blake on April 4, 1953. He worked for ArvinMeritor (Rockwell International) for 38 years. After retirement, he spent his time traveling with his wife. When he was not traveling, he enjoyed quality time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Blake; his daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie (William) LaPaugh of Newark, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Roger (Lucinda) Blake of Indian Trail, North Carolina; daughter, Desiree Blake of Newark, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Chellie) Blake of Newark, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Romy (Ed) Bennett of Newark, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Oliver of Canal Winchester, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle (Melvin) Steward of Canal Winchester, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Rodney Blake, Jr.; son, Rodrick Blake; sister, Vontilla Holland; and sister, Rosamond Price.
