CLARENCE, Iowa -- Services for Frederick J. "Fritz" Decker, Clarence, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ, Clarence. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Clarence. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence. Mr. Decker died Monday, July 16, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Frederick John Decker was born March 15, 1918, in Clarence, a son of Frank Walter Decker and Ella M. Gehris. Fritz married Honora Esther Sonnemaker on Oct. 26, 1940. They first farmed south of Clarence, then northwest of Lowden for 26 years. He and Honora moved to a new home in Clarence in 1976 after his retirement from farming. Known as a very capable farmer and a man of integrity, Fred most loved his family. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ronald Benfer, Troy, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Kathie Decker, Iowa City; grandchildren, William Frederick Decker, Minneapolis, Mark Benfer, Stockholm, Sweden, Robert Decker, Iowa City, Elizabeth Decker, Evanston, Ill., Sarah Benfer, Columbus, Ohio, Travis Wyatt, Fort Collins, Colo., and Jessica Wyatt, Boulder, Colo.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Irene Decker, Clarence. His beloved wife, Honora Esther (Sonnemaker) Decker, preceded him in death by more than 22 years. He missed her greatly and thought of her constantly.
