Michael A. Alexander was born on April 4, 1945 in San Diego, California to Harry and Esther Alexander. He was the older brother to his sister, Harriet.

Growing up in Lemon Grove, Michael participated in activities such as baseball and Boy Scouts. In addition, he enjoyed the many family vacations that he experienced.

He graduated from Helix High School in 1963. He continued his education at Grossmont College until he was drafted into the Army as a combat medic. After receiving a Purple Heart for his efforts in Vietnam, he returned home and continued his education at San Diego State University, where he graduated with a BA in 1972. As a graduation gift to himself, he went backpacking in Europe for five months.

Upon his return he began his dream job working for the City of San Diego in Park and Recreation. After thirty years of continued career growth, he retired from the City in 2000.

In 1980, he married Pam Chana, and in 1981 they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Heather. Michael and Heather had a special bond from the beginning, she was his "Bug" and he was her "Papa". In 1994, Michael and Pam divorced.

After the loss of his parents in 1986, Michael became a competitive athlete. There was never a finish line he didn't cross.

Michael met his soul mate, Pamela Tiffany, and they were married on October 20, 2001. He gained two additional daughters from the marriage, Angela and Trisha. Angela married Rob Clossin and Michael became "Gramps" to Liam in 2004 and Sarah in 2007.

Some of Michael's hobbies were participating in the Screen Actors Guild and restoring his own 1951 Chevy Panel. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, and attending sporting events. He was diagnosed with stage four prostrate cancer in 2002, and fought the good fight for his family and friends, until he passed on Christmas day. He leaves behind memories of a caring, loving and devoted husband, father and friend.

Afterglow

I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and shining days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve
to dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave
when life for me is done.
