As a young man, Russ Miller served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Admiral's staff and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He completed his six year tour of duty as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. In 1987 at 38 years of age, Russ became a Chino Police Officer. He was a member of Class 90 of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Police Academy, graduating February 5, 1988. Russ was an avid horseman and a member of the Chino Police Department Mounted Enforcement Team. He was also a Field Training Officer for many years, teaching, molding and shaping young officers. On February 1, 2000, Russ was struck and killed by a drunk driver while conducting a traffic stop. Russ' professionalism and love for his career profoundly impacted the lives of the many young officers that he trained. He was a "Cop's Cop" and admired by all who worked with him. He was a great asset to the Chino Police Department and the community. He is greatly missed by all who knew him. He will never be forgotten by those who he touched. Russ is survived by his wife, Stephanie, his daughters, Melissa and Sarah, and his son, Russ Jr.
