Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, 118th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862. He was captured by the Confederates on June 2, 1864 at Bethesda Church, Virginia, and was held as a prisoner of war until April 29, 1865. He was honorably discharged on June 8, 1865.
