Sarah Adlena Pritchard Strickland

107 and five months, died October 5, 2005, at Trinity Place Healthcare. Services will be Saturday, October 8, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Butlerand Ron McDougal officiating. Burial will be a Mt. Zion Cemetery in Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Strickland was born April 21, 1898, in Pickens County, AL to the late William Silas and Martha Della Davidson Pritchard. She formerly attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a member of RSVP Volunteer Quilting Club for 20 years. She was married to the late William Lanthus Strickland and widowed at the age of 44.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four children, Gladys Strickland Vick, William Horace Strickland, Amous Earl Strickland and Rayford Andrew Strickland.
She is survived by her daughter, Willena Strickland Woods of Columbus, MS; son, Travis C. Strickland, Sr. of Houston, TX; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Alan W. Woods, Shelley T. Woods, William (Billy) Strickland, Leamon Street, Eldon Barham and James D. Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends over the years and neighbors from the New Hope Community for the last sixty years, some of those so attentive over the last few years. Nancy Vaughn, Ann Windle, Earnesteen Nicholas Butler, Betty Williams, Jerry and Nancy Franks, Earnest Brownlee, Jr., Gail Stratton Street, Lorene Bryant, Sue Gore Wilkes, Mark Clay, Fred Bell, Mildred Sanders, Poochie Wiliams, RSVP Volunteers, especially the quilters, Stan Maynard, Administrator, Dianne Platt, D.O.N. and the entire Trinity Healthcare Staff.
