Emily grew up on a farm her father rented from the Bishop family on Kirk Road, in St. Charles, Kane County, Illinois. About 1910, her father retired from farming, moving to West Chicago, DuPage, Illinois where Emily met and married James Francis Colford. Through this marriage, she had two children, Cecilia Marion (born 1914) and James Patrick (born 1918). By 1928, she was divorced and lived for a time in Chicago before returning to West Chicago with her children. Emily died on 2 December 1963 near West Chicago, in a nursing facility located at the northeast corner of Roosevelt Rd. (Rt. 38) and Gary's Mill Rd.
