CHARLES J. TEETER IS DEAD
END COMES EARLY TODAY TO PROMINENT JASPER MAN

For Many Years He Was In Undertaking and Furniture Business There--Funeral Wednesday

Death came at 2 o'clock this morning to Charles Jacob Teeter, for many years a prominent Jasper undertaker and furniture dealer.
Mr. Teeter had been seriously ill since February. He was a patient for a time in Freeman Hospital in Joplin and was moved from there to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis where he underwent an operation for brain tumor on February 14. After two weeks in the St. Louis hospital, Mr. Teeter was returned to his home in Jasper where he passed away. His condition long had been critical.
Born June 5, 1890 in Jasper, Charles Teeter always had made his home there. His father, Daniel W. Teeter, was an early day undertaker and furniture dealer in Jasper and when the son, Charles, was 17, he became associated with the elder Teeter, serving as an embalmer. He received his embalmer's license in 1913.
At the death of Daniel Teeter, the two sons, Clint and Charles, took over the business on January 1, 1922. They had continued its operation, expanding and building up a trade reaching over the Jasper territory and in some sections of Barton county. Only recently the business was sold and is operated now at the Sharp & Selvey Furniture and Undertaking Company.
Charles Teeter was active in the civic organizations of Jasper. He was a member of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce and Lions club. He was a member of the Jasper Masonic lodge and was a Shriner. He also was affiliated with the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Teeter had been a member of the school board a number of years and served one term as its president. He also held a membership in the National and Missouri Funeral Directors Associations and served as the first president of the Eighth District Funeral Directors Association, which he assisted in organizing.
Mr. Teeter was a member of the Jasper Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Teeter are his wife, the former Miss Hattie Cearnal, to whom he was married in June 5, 1912; two sons, Marvin Teeter of Kirkwood, MO. and Harold Teeter of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Daryl Patterson of Joplin; two brothers, Clint Teeter of Hollywood, California and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Earl of Jasper and Mrs. Grace Deardorf of Springfield and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Jasper Methodist Church with the REv. R. S. Kindel in charge. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery. Masons will serve as active pallbearers and will be in charge of the services at the grave. The body is at the Sharp & Selvery Mortuary in Jasper.
