Actually, I don't have a sense of needing anything. I've learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.
I'm just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little, I've found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry hands full or empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
Vernelle Johnson Taunton, born August 10, 1925 in Holland, Texas to Charlie and Zelma Johnson. She went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 26, 2011. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend.
Vernelle was a member of Houston Northwest Baptist Church. She was formerly a 33 year member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Houston, Texas where she spent 13 years as the Sunday School Superintendent.
She is preceded in death by her brother Charles Ray Johnson and wife Jesse, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; her daughter Betty Wesley of Baker, Louisiana and her daughter Shirley Bauer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She is survived by her brother LeeRoy Johnson and wife Carolyn, of Bryan, Texas; her daughter Peggy Peacock and husband Jack of Houston, TX; her son Robert L. Bullard and wife Dorothy of Huntington Beach, CA; her daughter Donna Pridgeon and husband Juan Torres of Houston, TX; and daughter Jan Gonzales and husband Ted of Spring, TX.
She was blessed with 6 grandchildren & spouses: Wayne Peacock of Houston, TX, Michael Peacock and wife Lori of Onalaska, TX, and Lisa Garcia of Houston, TX; Renee' Mosher and husband David of Sunderland, MA, Dr. Kyle Gonzales and wife Anna of Hixson, TN and Kevin Gonzales of Stillwater, OK. She was doubly blessed with 8 great-grandchildren & spouses: Christopher Peacock of Onalaska, TX, Kristy Berger and spouse Cody of Navasota, TX, and Jenny Peacock of Woodville, TX, Salina Garcia of Houston, TX; Pierce & Everett Gonzales of Hixson, TN (and Adelaide Rose Gonzales will be here January 12, 2012).
God provided a wonderful group of Christian women who were her life-long friends and a comfort to her family throughout her life: Mozelle Barrington, Maxine Golden, Virginia Vercher, Pauline Burchfield, Amelia Gonzales, Helen Peacock, Otilia Gonzales and numerous others.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 from 5pm until 9pm at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home 1200 W. 34th Street, Houston, TX, 77018. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:00am with the Burial to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX.
