SON OF MIAMI COUPLE COMING BACK TO REST
The body of Marine Cpl. Hazen B. Lanning, Jr., the son of a Miami couple, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lanning, 14 G street southwest , is aboard the funeral ship docking in San Francisco, Calif., today, according to a government report received here. A 23-year old corpsman, Lanning died in action on Tarawa in November, 1943, after having fought in the Guadalcanal campaign. He was a journalism student at Oklahoma university before enlisting in the Marines when the war started. Lanning's home was in Nowata at that time. His parents moved here two years ago. The body will be sent from San Francisco to a distribution center in Kansas City, Mo. Cooper Funeral home will be in charge of arrangements. A complete list of the Oklahoma war victims being returned for burial is to be published in the News-Record Sunday. (Miami Daily News-Record, Miami, OK, Friday, October 10, 1947, p. 1, Col. 5)

Rites for Corporal Lanning on Tuesday
Funeral services for Marine Cpl. Hazen B. Lanning, Jr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lanning, 14 G street southwest, will be conducted at the First Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Guy C. Tetirick will officiate. Members of the Floyd L. Perry post No. 147 of the American Legion will act as pallbearers. The ex-serviceman's organization also will hold military rites at the grave. Burial will be in G. A. R. cemetery under direction of the Cooper Funeral home. The body of Corporal Lanning, who was killed in the Tarawa campaign against Japanese forces in November, 1943, arrived in Miami yesterday.
