Memorial services are 3 p.m. Friday, July 2, at First Baptist Church in Kentwood, La., with his cousin, the Rev. Joseph Ratcliff,officiating. Burial will be in the Lewis family plot in Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood.
Mr. Lewis was born March 4, 1923, in Mississippi. He was the son of the late Thomas C. Lewis Sr. and Lizzie Lofton.
He was a retired representative of Pitney-Bowes and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga during Naval battles in the Pacific. After the war, he spent several years with his father at Lewis Chevrolet Co. in Kentwood.
Mr. Lewis earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi College and a master's in classical languages from Ohio State University. After retirement, he resided for many years in Hanford,Calif., and in recent months in Asheville, N.C., and Weaverville.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Lewis Douglas of Asheville and Sue Ellen Lewis Abdalian, M.D., of New Orleans;two sons, Thomas C. Lewis III of Asheville and John Tycer Lewis of Weaverville; a sister, Lucille Pledger of Kentwood; two brothers,Floyd W. Lewis of New Orleans and Billy O. Lewis of Mayfield,Ky.; and four grandchildren.
