RACINE-Margaret (nee: Armstrong) Nolden, 93, passed away quietly at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints Hospice on Saturday June 18, 2011. Margaret was born in Superior on May 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Thomas and Christina Armstrong. She graduated from The Claude-Allouez Academy in Superior. Margaret was employed as a clerk for The Great Northern Railway and then as an Administrative Assistant for The Murphy Oil Company in Superior until her retirement at the age 59. She enjoyed 58 years of marriage to Dean Nolden, a plant manager with Koppers Company. After Dean's retirement at the age of 62, they moved to Texas to be near her brother and sister, Tom and Ellen, first residing in Kerrville then relocating to Ingram in the Texas Hill Country. Dean passed away in 1996; Margaret then was blessed to enjoy the company of Bernard Renfro, a retired Army/Air Force officer in San Antonio, Texas, where she lived until his passing in 2009. Margaret relocated to Racine to be with her children, spending her last four years at the Becker-Shoop Center where she received excellent care. She had many interests, including golf and dance; she was a very competitive card player along with being a budding artist. Starting in her 60's, Margaret became a hospice volunteer and won many prizes for her recipes. She was also a very faithful member of Christ the King Church while she resided in Superior. She will be remembered always as a devoted wife, mother, and loving grandmother.
Margaret is survived by four children: Terrence (Linda) Nolden of Racine, David (Sandra) Nolden of Racine and Estero, Florida, Mary Nolden (Dennis Mahoney) of Victoria Canada and Teresa Nolden of San Francisco, Calif. She is further survived by grandchildren, Dean, Mark and Paul Nolden; Shann Uran and Trent and Jennifer Mahoney; as well as nine great grandchildren: Lindsay, Jack, Kate-Margaret, Jonathan, Lillian, and Bradseth Nolden; Sienna and Dylan Uran and Emma Mahoney. Margaret is further survived by other relatives and dear friends in Racine and Texas.
