Youngest daughter of Abigail Stearns and Samuel Hartwell of Concord, Middlesex, Massachucetts.

Lydia was the first wife of Col. John Shepard of Concord; he was a son of Mary Smedley and Daniel Shepard.

Lydia and John married 20 February 1729 at Concord, Middlesex, Massachucetts.

Their children were:

Col. John Shepard, Jr. 1730-1802 (md. Mary "Mercy" Wilkins and removed to Hillsborough County, New Hampshire)

Lydia Shepard 1732-1791 (md. Mr. Howe of Concord)

Abigail Shepard 1738-1822 (md. John Stephenson of Concord, Mass., they removed to Lyndeborough, Hillsborough, N.H.)

Lydia died shortly after the birth of Abigail and Col. John Shepard Sr. remarried about 1743 and removed to Amherst, Hillsborough, New Hampshire.

He and his second wife, Sarah French, are buried at Amherst Town Hall Burying Ground.
