Son of William & Winifred "Winney" Langston Kelly, who migrated from the old Pendleton District of SC to Rabun and/or Habersham Counties, Georgia in early 1800s; then on to Gilmer Co, GA in early 1840s.

..HH #455 Andrew J. (age 28, b GA) & wife Josephine Louisa Pickett Kelly; 1 daughter. Andrew & Louisa Picket were married on Apr 5, 1846; Bk 1, Pg 36. Andrew J. Kelly apparently died in the 1850s (no legible tombstone found) ... Josephine Kelly & Eli Sumner married Oct 11, 1859; Gilmer Co, GA; Bk 2, Pg 147. Eli & Josephine Sumner are listed in 1860 census of Pickens Co, GA; (HH #109) with four Kelly children ... Susanna, age 13; Nancy J., age 12; Isabella, age 10; and William T, age 6. (Josephene Louiser Sumner, FAG Memorial #66762340)

William and Winiferd Kelly (ages 79 & 78, respectively) are listed in 1870 census of Gilmer Co; they are NOT listed in 1880 census. According to Kelly/Kelley descendants, William & Winifred they are buried in the Keeter Cemetery in Gilmer Co, in unidentified graves marked only with rocks (as are about half of the graves in this old cemetery).

Note that this surname is spelled by descendants as both Kelly and Kelley. In early records of Habersham Co, GA, the surname is also found spelled as O'Kelly.

Robert V. Kelly and Rachel E. Morrison were married Oct 25, 1866, Pickens Co, GA; Bk A, Pg 272.

Civil War records for Pickens Co, GA indicate that Robert V. Kelly (sic) was 1st Sgt of Company E, 23rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, CSA in 1861. He was captured (date unknown) and sent to Ft. Delaware Prison where he remained until June 12, 1865.
