Mr. Schofill was born on Jan. 12, 1937 in Nashville and was the son of Leonidus Schofill and Little Lucy Minnie Sutton Schofill, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Vera Mae Flancher Schofill, who died on Sept. 12, 2011; and one son, John Henry Schofill Jr. He was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Tifton and a member of Gideons International. He had been a resident of Tift County since October 1969 and had been owner/operator of Schofill's Appliance Company in Tifton since that time.
Every Tuesday night, he got together with Archie White and the "Old Friends" to pick and sing. Together they would perform at elderly homes in Tifton. His favorite pastime was fishing with Archie and playing music with the "Old Friends." He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a devout Christian, avid fisherman and picker and grinner.
Mr. Schofill is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher Todd Schofill and Edsel Lee and Kelli Schofill, all of Tifton; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Whitten and Alex Herrera, Valerie Lynn Schofill and Madison Schofill Heath, all of Tifton; eight grandchildren, Nanci Leigh Smith and husband, Chris, Stevi Lynn Sweetnam, Shanna Moran Whitten, Amy Lynn Johnson, Christopher John "C. J." Schofill, Alana Renea Schofill, Hunter Todd Schofill and Hayley Rene' Schofill; and one great-grandchild, Brenden Michael Sweetnam.
