On Sunday morning, 15 Sept 1946, RCAF Douglas Dakota III (#962) transport aircraft crashed at Estevan Airport, in Saskatchewan, with the loss of 21 RCAF personnel; all airmen had served honourably during the Second World War, many of them having been decorated for their war-time acts of valour. The Dakota was engaged in ferrying airmen from Fargo, North Dakota to Estevan, Saskatchewan. The airmen had ferried Fairchild PT-19 Cornell planes to Fargo and were returning for another series of ferry flights. F/O W. A. PERRY was one of the casualties of this tragic accident.

William was a son of William Weicker Sr. (1878-1940) and Emma Jungblut (1878-1968).


He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Rockcliffe, Ontario.


Later he was commissioned to Minot North Dakota to train pilots.


While Flying to Esteven, Sakatchewan on Sep. 15, 1946, with 19 other pilots and 1 grounds crew the plane crashed landed and killed all on board.


Casualty of World War II, Flight Lieutenant Weicker held the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar. His Service No. was J/15301. William was 30 years old.


William was buried with full military honours in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario.
