Ruth was the daughter of William James and Ida (Snell) Anderson. Anderson was originally Andrewson, from Glascow. It was Americanized but Ruth held on to the original spelling and made sure it is on her gravestone. She was married to Milford Harvey Mattison. He was the editor of The Elk Rapids newspaper. Ruth had a sister Myrtle (Anderson) Schultz and a brother Douglas Anderson. She had no children. She died of leukemia.
