WINTER HARBOR - Pluma Tracy backman, 88, died at the home of her daughter after a long illness. She was born the daughter of Walter H. and Eva (Oakes) Tracy.

After graduating from Cherryfield Academy in 1928, she attended Washington State Normal School at Machias. After marriage and raising two daughters, Eva R. and Nancy R., she decided to go back to school. She graduated from UMO with a BS degree in education in 1970. While teaching at Winter Harbor, five of her grandchildren were her students; Pamela, Bonny and Allen Gerrish, Donnie III and Rebecca Backman. She is survived by a beloved daughter, Nancy R. and her husband Hiram. Pluma was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1995; a beloved daughter Eva R. Parritt; two beloved grandsons, Donnie and Allen; two stepsons Lyle and Donald Jr. who was like a son to her for 42 years; four sisters, Loretta, Hilda, Lavina and Flora; three brothers, Aaron, Walter and Norman.

Because of her wishes there will be no visiting hours.
